Dear Readers, We have several updates this week and the highlights include our Gupshup with Avaan Patel who has directed Michael Frayn's COPENHAGEN. The play will be staged this weekend at the NCPA Experimental Theatre. Last week, Mumbai saw its version of the Australia found, international theatre festival,SHORT+SWEET. 10 minute plays by writers from Australia, Mumbai and other parts of India were showcased at this festival. Our Feature for this week takes a look at what these plays were about. New Hindi play MY NAME IS SHEELA will premiere this weekend. Other shows that are lined up for this weekend and early next week include Ank's RANG BAJRANG and HAI MERA DIL, Awishkar's MAUNRAAG, a Hindi translation of Tendulkar's SAKHARAM BINDER, Khalid Mohamed's KENNEDY BRIDGE, and plays such as TAX FREE and NO SMOKING by Karma Kala Manch. Famous Gujarati play, BAA RETIRE THAAY CHHE has been revived for 25 shows in Mumbai. You can also read about the revival of Dharamvir Bharati's ANDHA YUG, directed by Bhanu Bharti. The production, sponsored by the Sahitya Kala Parishad, the cultural wing of the Delhi government, is supposed to be Delhi's largest theatre performance, and will be performed at the historical site of the Feroze Shah Kotla. The play was first staged there by iconic theatre director Ebrahim Alkazi in 1962. Another out of city event that we would like you to know about is the Ranga Shakara theatre festival in Bangalore. Ranga Shankara, which is headed by Arundhati Nag is one of the foremost theatre venues in the country. Its festival this year focusses on plays with political content, and includes Mumbai based Ramu Ramanathan's latest playCOMRADE KUMBHKARNA, directed by Mohit Takalkar, and produced and performed by the National School of Drama's (NSD) Repertory.
