This is a workshop for people with at least a year's background in acting, dance or music, and explores the relationship between breath, body, space, and the performer''s presence.
By observing and connecting with the rhythms and patterns of our own breath, we will work on grounding, centering, attention and responsiveness. We will learn how to unlock the flow of impulse from within our bodies, and thus work towards a deep and expressive physical and vocal language.
We will work on accessing the essence of text through rhythm, intonation and vocal action and on the confrontation of physical and vocal scores.
We will focus especially on embodying the rasaas through breath, gaze and gesture.
We will thus work simultaneously on connecting with ourselves, connecting with others and connecting with the space. From this organic connection the performer''s presence emerges.
The workshop will culminate in a public sharing called Breathing Space.
About the facilitator: Arka Mukhopadhyay is the founding member of The Arshinagar Project. He is a performer and independent researcher with a primary interest in physical and musical performance traditions. His research and practice also extend to individual and collective transformation though performance and the meditative and ritual arts.
